The Department of Transportation on Friday stood firm on the effective date of the new rule (rule II, the rule-making shorthand) that would require airlines to give passengers a full accounting of the cost of luggage. In the description of that rejection, a point noted that airlines and others have said technical problems would make it impossible for them to meet the deadline of 24 January; operators and others requesting the extension of one year.
DOT refused the request, saying,
The Operator will also be asked to express in full, all advertising rate including taxes and fees. They should also give passengers a 24 hour grace period to change the airline reservations. This rule will go into effect on 26 January.
